CRBN's newest evolution of their groundbreaking Trufoam line is officially live with the CRBN Trufoam Barrage. Currently, the Standard 2 and Hybrid 4 shapes are available. I’ve been putting both through their paces for over a week in drills and competitive play to bring you these first impressions.

The TL;DR Verdict

The CRBN Trufoam Barrage is comfortably the best Trufoam paddle to date. It is a no-brainer upgrade for CRBN loyalists or owners of the Trufoam Genesis and Waves. However, in a market flooded with Gen-4 floating core paddles, the Barrage faces stiff competition. Read on for more detail.

The Good Stuff: Performance & Feel

Note: These impressions focus on the Standard 2 and Hybrid 4, as the Elongated 1 and 3 shapes are not yet available.

1. Signature Trufoam Feel

If you’ve played with the Trufoam Genesis, the Barrage will feel like meeting an old friend. It’s muted and "dwelly," though slightly less so than the Genesis. While it shares some DNA with the Honolulu FC+ or the Six Zero Coral, the Trufoam feedback remains unique in its pocketing nature.

2. Power: The "Waves" Redemption

While the previous Waves line struggled to find its footing, the Barrage is what that evolution should have been. It thrusts CRBN back into the power conversation.

  • The Result: Serves, drives, and putaways are noticeably hotter.

  • Comparisons: Power on full swings feels similar to the BNB Loco, Joola Pro V Scorpeus, or Kosmos. It’s not "Elite Tier" power, but it’s more than enough for most aggressive players.

3. Pop

Despite the removal of fiberglass from the face layup that characterized the previous Trufoam iterations, the Barrage is the poppiest paddle in CRBN's offerings.

  • Counters: Come back with easy pace.

  • Resets: Require minimal effort—get on the ball and let the paddle do the work.

  • Speed-ups: Feel "juicy" and responsive, comparable to the Honolulu CR lineup.

4. Secret Sauce Spin

CRBN continues to defy expectations here. Despite not having a "durable" grit, the Barrage produces some of the highest spin numbers on the market.

  • Topspin: Keeps big swings in the court.

  • Slices: Skid low.

  • Longevity: Top paddle reviewers like Pickleball Studio used the Genesis for upwards of 6 months with reports of spin durability being quite high, and I imagine the Barrage will keep that constant.

5. Maneuverability & Specs

The Barrage arrives light, leaving plenty of room for weight customization. Both the 2 and 4 shapes come in with average static weights of 8 ounces and average swing weights of 110. This means that the paddle shines in fast hands exchanges and allows players to add weight to fine tune the paddle to their playstyle without sacrificing that maneuverability.

The "Not So Good" Stuff

The Sweet Spot Dilemma

I’d rank the sweet spot as "above average." The problem? The competition is fierce. When compared to the Honolulu Foam line, the Gherkin Draco, or the Luzz Inferno, the Barrage feels slightly less forgiving. Many of those competitors offer oversized sweet spots at a significantly lower price point.

The $280 Price Tag

I’m a paddle enthusiast and a Kobe Bryant shoe collector—I understand paying for what you love. But at $280 (before discounts), the Barrage sits in the "Tier-3 Premium" category alongside the Selkirk Boomstik.

CRBN clearly listened to the community by moving to a Gen-4 floating core and removing the fiberglass, but they are holding tight to that premium price and still don't have durable grit on the paddle face.

Final Thoughts: 7.5 / 10

The CRBN Trufoam Barrage is a high-performing, enjoyable paddle that will satisfy any CRBN fan. It’s a "good" paddle in a market full of "great" values. If you value the specific Trufoam feel and CRBN’s brand reliability, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for the best price-to-performance ratio, you might find the Barrage a bit "mid." I'll continue to get time in with the Barrage and if you'd like to follow along, check out my page @threefiveforever on Instagram.
